I’m a full-time professional illustrator who’s worked on 45 children’s picture books. In 2016, I published “Monsters Go Night-Night,” a book in which all of the characters were inspired by monster drawings created by my 5-year-old son Elijah. To commemorate the publication of the book, I asked artists to rework the original kid drawings in their own ways and share them on social media. The reaction was so overwhelming that I dubbed the challenge “Monsters Go” and continued to post a new monster prompt each week for the following three years, now contributed by all six of my children.During this time, I started a new personal project, “Monsters Go,” which I continued to refer to. Instead of several artists drawing from a single monster prompt, I, as a single artist, would redraw many monsters submitted by many kids in this round.
